The puffy bags or baggy eyes you see underneath your lower eyelids are extremely common as we age. These bags are due to the excess fat around the eyes that has been pushed forward and accumulated beneath the eyes. Also thanks to gravity your cheek starts to droop accentuating the tired appearance.
But now, using a cosmetic procedure, known as blepharoplasty (or eyelid lift) you can sculpt away excess skin and loose muscles, plus erase away puffy bags on both the upper and lower eyelids… leaving you looking years younger.
Q. How Does It Work?
Dr. Kagan: To remove the puffy bags common in lower lids, you don’t even have to have an incision in the skin. The procedure is done inside the eyelid leaving no scar, whatsoever!
But that’s not all. Often many patients complain about the hollowness they see on their lower lids, that often makes them feel tired and produces dark circles under their eyes. Finally there is a non-surgical solution to this difficult and unsightly problem. By using Restylane or Juvederm injections into lower lids we can significantly improve the contour of the lower lid all without doing surgery. Recovery is often in 24 to 48 hours.
Q. Who Are The Best Candidates For Blepharoplasty?
Dr. Kagan: Usually if you have any type of unsightly bulges, bags, or drooping lids you will see significant results after eyelid surgery.
The best candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy and with realistic expectations. And there is really no age limit for this procedure.
Q. Should You Have Both Upper and Lower Eyelids Done Together?
Dr. Kagan: You can have either the upper or lower eyelids done together or separate. If your problem areas are more prominent in one region then you will only need one area done.
However, most patients find they get more dramatic results and a more symmetrical appearance if both areas are done at the same time.
Q. Does It Hurt?
Dr. Kagan: The most discomfort you’ll experience during your surgery will be the stinging from the anesthetic injected before surgery. Good thing this only lasts for a matter of seconds. After this anesthetic you will experience almost no more pain during the procedure. You will not be put to sleep; it is completely unnecessary to be put to sleep for an eyelid rejuvenation.
